I knew I'd been affected by some of the materials I came into contact with out there. So, when I received a pamphlet from my union about this program, I signed up right away.

Program Benefits
  • Comprehensive work history interview: This interview will help determine if you may have been exposed to radiation or toxic substances without your knowledge.

  • Free medical screening exam: The primary reason for the medical screening exam is to look for work related illnesses that you may not be aware of so that you can seek proper medical care. In addition, we also check for other medical problems including high blood pressure and diabetes and can help you arrange for proper medical care. Our comprehensive medical exam has already saved many lives.

  • Early detection of health problems: The screening may detect health problems before they become serious. We can help you arrange follow-up medical care for such things when needed. As a result, these programs have already saved many lives.

  • Future Protections: The information gathered from this Program can be used to better protect the health of current and future workers on DOE sites.

  • Compensation: The results of the screening program led Congress to enact a compensation program, the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA) for workers who became ill because of their work at DOE nuclear weapons research or production sites. Workers with a qualifying illness are informed about EEOICPA. Workers not eligible for EEOICPA compensation may be referred to state workers compensation programs.
